My Holidays

In the first week of the holidays I spent time with my cousins. I also spent time with my sister and brother. 
In the second week of the holidays my family and I all went to Wahi beach and stayed at a really cool batch on the beach. It was awesome!

 

                                                              HOOT:

My class P3 have read a book called Hoot. Hoot is about a boy named Roy who gets bullied by a boy named Dana Matherson. One day when Roy was heading to school on the school bus he spots a running boy who look homeless, and Roy gets curios. He follows the running boy to his camp-site in a forest and that's when their friendship starts. 
The running boy one night finds owls in the construction site of a new pancake house. He try's to protect them and gets in trouble with the law. Roy, The running boy and his step sister Beatrice all try to save the owls . Hoot is a great adventurous book that I enjoyed.
  I would rate Hoot a 6 out of 10, only because it wasn't my type of book. 
My favourite character was Beatrice (The running boys step sister) because she was brave, fisty and strong minded.

My least favourite character was Dana Matherson because he was A bully and he was naughty and obedient. He also smoked cigarettes which I think is disgusting. 

My favourite part of the book was when Roy first  met The running boy who was called Mullet Fingers. Roy followed Mullet Fingers to his camp-site in the forest. Roy looked around and no one was there so he searched through this plastic bag that lay on the ground. The plastic bag contained Cotton mouth snakes which are a deadly type of snake. Then Mullet Fingers came and saved the day.

I think the theme of the book is to not bully and save and protect all our animals especially owls.

In the movie Hoot I am most looking forward to seeing all the characters and seeing how different the movie is to the book.

COTTON MOUTH SNAKE

At the moment our class are doing a 30 day book challenge. the point of this is to get to like books and to not judge a book by its cover. I got the book called Paper towns by John Green.

This is my second Taxgedo for the book we are reading called Hoot.

In my class we have been learning how to use a cool program called Kodo. On Kodo you get to make your own worlds ( it is a bit like minecraft ). The photo above is a little part of my world, I haven't done much yet but I will definitely do more and create my own world.

Pros:

• Program aspect is fun
• Being creative and thinking big
• You can play on two player with other people
• You can create your own video games
• You can synchronize characters together.

Cons:

• Limited characters 
• Requires patience 
• Time consuming to build one thing
• Graphics were not that great of quality
•  Hard to move camera and get the right angle.

At the moment I am reading a book called Nil. I am about to start it and I think that it is about people trapped on an island where they cant escape and eventually the island will sink in a matter of years/months. I am very excited to start the book and can't wait to see what it is about!!!

Devon Sports Exchange!!!!

Every year at Mokoia Intermediate we have a sports exchange wear we go to each others schools and stay for 3 days, playing sports. This year we travelled by bus to New Plymouth where Devon Intermediate is.

Day 1:
Day 1 we had to be at school by 7:30 am with our packed bags, ready for the 5 hour bus ride to New Plymouth! It was raining so we got really wet! 
We got to Devon at 3:00 pm and we got billeted. We found our billets and left.

Day 2:
Day 2 we all went back to the school and started with our sports. Mokoia won the year 7 netball but lost the year 8 netball. 
Mokoia won the hockey.
Devon won the girls and boys soccer.
Mokoia won basketball.
Devon won the rugby.
Unfortunately we lost the trophy by one game!

Day 3:
Day 3 we travelled back to Mokoia and went home to our own nice warm beds!!!!      

Recount of my holidays:

I had fun in my holidays. At the start of the holidays I spent time with my sister, my friends and family.

Me and my dad decided to go to the Rotorua museum. There was a cool pottery exhibition on which we had a look at and I had fun going up to the rooftop of the museum.

Later in the second week I went over to Hamilton for 5 days. I stayed with my cousins. We had fun going to the Hamilton gardens which is where the photo was taken. Me and my cousins also went to places like the Hamilton mall etc.

The lowlight of my holidays was having a cold for a few days in the first week.   

Here is some pictures of Ohope Beach which is my favourite beach to go to. Ohope Beach is just a 10 minuet drive from Whakatane. It is beautiful there.

Our class P3, has been writing reverse poems. A reverse poem is something that when you read it down it is bad but when you read from the bottom up it is good. 
Here is an example: 



I am part of a lost generation
and I refuse to believe that
I can change the world
I realize this may be a shock but
“Happiness comes from within.”
is a lie, and
“Money will make me happy.”
So in 30 years I will tell my children
they are not the most important thing in my life
My employer will know that

Families stayed together

but this will not be true in my era
This is a quick fix society
Experts tell me
30 years from now, I will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of my divorce

Environmental destruction will be the norm
No longer can it be said that
My peers and I care about this earth
It will be evident that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic
It is foolish to presume that
There is hope.


This is a sentence that I did:

 P3 is making our own planets. First we had to design a spaceship to take us to our new planet. Then we had to start to make our planet. We had to design a name and logo for our planet.

I find this video very inspiring. If we do something like this every day the world will be a better place😊

I have started to read the fault in our stars. I haven't read much but I predict that in the end of the book Hazel will die because of her sickness. It will cause sadness between her mother and Augustus. I have only read the first chapter but I know that it is going to be a great book!

The last few weeks, my class P3 has been reading Among The Hidden. We are about to read the second book Among the imposters.  

My prediction for the second  book is that Luke will fight for the population law and the government will find out that Luke is using fake ID.

End of our genius hour

Our genius hour:

I did my genius hour with Casey. Together  we worked on inventing a new type of chocolate. We decided to make GOEY MALLOW- white chocolate and marshmallow, and the other chocolate was BANANA RAMA- milk chocolate and banana lollies.

what was the best part of genius hour?

probably making the chocolate and liking the bowl.

what was your process? 
Firstly we made our board and put all our photos on it, ready to present. Secondly we decided which flavours of chocolate we would make. Thirdly we made the chocolate to present to the class.

How did your end result turn out?
Our end result was awesome! every body loved the chocolate and they turned out really good.

Was it successful?
yes it was very successful!

what would you do differently next time?
we would probably do a power point to put the photos on.

what would you do next if we did genius hour again?
Fnd out what is really in McDonald's food.

I would rate our genius hour project= 9/10

Prediction for the end of the book:

My prediction for the end of wonder is that August becomes the most popular kid in school and via leaves home to high school. Justin and via live happily ever after.

Puarenga Camp - Thornton Beach

Lanterns gracefully floating through the nights sky
Amazing 
Night sky glistening above our heads
The lanterns sparkled like diamonds
Extraordinary
Right in front of us we watch the lantern sit there stuck in the tree
Neat balls of fire turning to speaks as they disappear into the distance
Spectacular sparkles scraping the sky  

Yesterday My class P3 did some strange maths. The first quest was to see which group could get the longest perimeter using toilet paper. The second quest was to see which group could build the biggest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows. It was very fun!  

This term my class have started a novel called Wonder. It is about a boy who has a deformed face. His parents have made him start school but he is afraid he will get bullied and have no friends. Even though he looks different his sister Via and his parents all believe in him.
